KIGALI-Kigali University Teaching Hospital (CHUK) has acquired a state-of-the-art C-T Scan.

CHUK is the second hospital in the country to acquire the equipment, after King Faisal Hospital, Kigali.

In an exclusive interview with The New Times, the Director of CHUK, Dr. Théobald Hategekimana, confirmed the development.

"We are now making sure that doctors who will operate the machine are competent and by next month, we shall be able to provide scanning services,” Hategekimana said.

The hospital has been experiencing challenges due to lack of this specialised equipment and according to the director; some patients had to incur high costs to obtain the service at KFH,K.

He said that the scanner will save patients who previously had to pay between Rwf 60,000 and Rwf 750,000 depending on the area of the body to be scanned.

Hategekimana said that the hospital’s management would soon sit with the Ministry of Health to come up a costing structure for the service.

The Scan is part of Belgium’s support towards improving service delivery in the health sector.

Through the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC), the four-year program is implemented by the Institutional Support Program and Implementation of the Health Development Plan for Kigali City (PAPSDSK).

The Director of PAPSDSK, Dr. Blaise Uhagaze, recently said the project will construct three health centres in Gasabo District while Nyarugenge and Kicukiro districts would get one each.
