They expressed the remarks after touring La COOPABU, a handcraft cooperative and Ingenzi za Huye, which ventures in trade and investment.
"I am very impressed by the organisation and management of these cooperatives. For instance, the art craft cooperative has managed to develop a way of coding all their products that every member knows when his product was purchased and at how much it was sold,” observed Sperata Nyirangirimana, the official in charge of cooperatives in Ngororero District.
"It is a good initiative which promotes transparency and creates a spirit of trust among members. I think I will introduce this practice back home”.
She paid tribute to the Ingenzi Cooperative, observing that it was amazing how local people had resolved to unite and contribute to the development of the country.
"The construction of a Rwf 1billion market is a commendable realisation that a group of residents have achieved,” Nyirangirimana added.
"It will contribute to their wellbeing but it is also beneficial to the entire community. If it has been successful here, it means people in our districts can also emulate it.”
The study tour was organised by the Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA) in collaboration with GIZ, a German development organisation.
This week, the officials are set to visit cooperatives in Muhanga, Huye, Musanze, Rubavu and Kigali City.
According to Marie Chantal Rwakazina, a Rwanda organisation of Local Authorities Association (RALGA) Capacity Building Expert, the tour would help participants exchange best practices and experiences about cooperatives, investment and trade promotion.
"Some districts are well ahead in organising cooperatives and improving their production. Visiting them serves as an example to local officials as they learn from their best practices, which they then implement in their respective districts,” Rwakazina said.
