ARUSHA - Former German President, Prof. Horst Kohler, is expected to be among participants at a high level East African Community (EAC) roundtable discussion.
 
The discussions slated for Arusha, Tanzania starting Thursday, will be held under the theme; "Ambition for and reality of the East African Community in a globalised world.”

 EAC publicist, Richard Owora, said that the event will be attended by selected participants from the political class, civil society organisations, business, labour organisations, media and academia.
 
According to the programme, the EAC Secretary General, Dr. Richard Sezibera, will preside over the opening ceremony. He will highlight some of the key priority areas he intends to pursue during his term in office and outline some of the challenges the EAC is facing today.
 
EAC Deputy Secretary General, Finance and Administration, Dr. Julius Rotich, said that Kohler comes to East Africa at a time when the German government has doubled its contributions from the previous 1.5 million Euros to 3 million Euros.

 "Germany is one of the twelve active members who contributed to the EAC Partnership Fund which is a basket fund that receives contributions from development partners to fund activities of the EAC integration and development,” Rotich noted.
 
Former Tanzanian Minister of Finance, Edwin Mtei, who also served as the first Governor of the Tanzanian Central Bank and IMF Director, is expected to analyse the challenges faced in implementing EAC Protocols and Agreements.
