Dear editor,

After the launching of the national public consultations on the formation of the East African Political Federation and its fast tracking, by the head of state, we should all embrace the East African Political Federation.

The President said that there is need for EAC member states to embrace political federation if they are to develop.

He is right because all of as members of developing countries need to come together as a bloc so as to develop. This will help us solve our in unison which will actually be better than doing it as individual countries.

For example in the recent Kenyan crisis, things might have not reached that far had the EAC acted earlier enough as a single nation.

As consultations begin, all Rwandans and concerned stakeholders should act responsibly to see Rwanda meet the eligibility requirements.

Citizens of founder member countries supported the federation and finalized consultations in time, although Tanzanians rejected the idea of fast-tracking.

The main reason behind my backing of the president’s call is that Rwanda joined the regional bloc to help enhance her sustainable development. In fact, the federation is to be the main pillar of development.

The Deputy Secretary General of EAC in charge of political federation, Beatrice Kiraso, also re-emphasized the need for the federation if regional countries were to compete favorably in the global economy.

She added that the EAC’s aim is to go beyond the economic unity to a political federal government. There is no doubt that we shall all benefit.

Therefore I stand firm and right behind the president’s call to all Rwandans to fully participate in the exercise and give their views on how they think the federation should be formed.
