THIS letter is with reference to your articles in yesterday’s issue of The New Times entitled: "Rwanda achieves MDG target on sanitation,” and "Rwanda leading Africa in sanitation promotion for tourism - WB.”

It is very encouraging for Rwanda to emerge top in a broad spectrum of programs and activities spread over the multiple sectors of trade, commerce, tourism and investment.

Rwanda is ranked among the best four countries in Africa to surpass the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) target in sanitation by registering 58 percent, eight per cent higher than the MDG threshold of 50 percent.

The tourism sector in the country continues to register a healthy growth rate, with good sanitation and hygiene playing a key role in this.

Yolande Coombes, the World Bank’s senior sanitation and hygiene specialist, has rightly pointed out that countries lose visitor arrivals and tourism revenue by not investing in sanitation.

Rwanda’s high sanitation standards continue to boost tourist arrivals and tourism revenue for the country.

Singapore is perceived as one of the cleanest cities in Asia. Recently, a senior Indian educationist remarked that Rwanda is the Singapore of Africa”

Rwanda and her people will certainly continue to shine in their march towards excellence.
