Members of the Rwandan Diaspora across North America have descended on Chicago, in their thousands, to celebrate remarkable progress registered by the government of Rwanda.

The event, dubbed Rwanda Day, will be an opportunity for Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to learn more about the country, including available investment opportunities waiting to be exploited.

That the country has achieved impressive development is a matter of record, yet there are detractors out there intent on portraying a different image.

The smear campaign targets members of the Diaspora and foreigners, with the assumption that they represent easy prey and will believe the falsehoods, given that they live far away from the country.

However, with events like the Rwanda Day, where a cross section of people from Rwanda will interact with the Diaspora and present a true picture of what is happening in the country, there is no doubt that the detractors will run out of steam as the falsehoods they have been peddling will be exposed.

Once enlightened and abreast with the country’s progress and Vision, the Diaspora will play a more active role in helping achieve Rwanda’s ambitious agenda as well as setting the record straight, with regard to the facts on the ground.

Indeed, the progress is evident, but challenges still exist. Overcoming them, must be the responsibility of every Rwandan, irrespective of where they live.
