ADRIEN Niyonshuti has singled out Eritrea’s Daniel Teklehaimanot has the man to beat in this year’s Kwita Izina cycling tour.
Teklehaimanot swept last year’s Tour of Rwanda and is odds on favourite to win the 321km race which paces off tomorrow.
"He is one of the best in Africa and definitely one of the favourites for the race but I fancy my chances,” the South-African based rider said.
60 riders from Rwanda, Kenya, Eritrea, Tanzania, Uganda, Algeria, Morocco and DRC will compete in the race which was recently incorporated onto the International Cycling Union (UCI) calendar.
On Saturday, riders will race from Kigali to Kinigi, before proceeding to Rubavu. Day two will see them race back to Kigali.
Rwanda will field three teams in Akagera, Karisimbi and Espoir.
For each stage, the winner will pocket Rwf415, 000 while first and second runners-up will settle for Rwf207, 000 and Rwf103, 000.
The overall winner will take home Rwf431, 000.
