NYAMASHEKE - The Global Fund, through the Strive Foundation, yesterday donated 24 cows to people living with HIV/AIDS in Macuba and Kajongo sectors of Nyamasheke District.

The donation supplements the government’s cattle stocking programme dubbed ‘Girinka’.

"HIV victims should know that the government cares about them.  They should use the donation to improve their output and that of their neighbours,” said Dieudone Matungo, the co-ordinator of Strive Foundation in Rusizi District.

The district urged beneficiaries to take good care of the cattle.

"The President wishes all Rwandans become rich. Residents should actively embrace these poverty eradication projects,” said Nyamasheke vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Catherine Gatete.

"The cattle are a source of wealth, dedicate time to their wellbeing so that the productivity in milk and fertilisers is high,” she added.

Also donated were livestock drugs. Beneficiaries also received training on how to feed the animals.
The Global Fund promised to donate more cattle to HIV victims in Kirimbi and Karambi sectors.

Strive Foundation is a non-profit making organisation that supports social and economic welfare. Its interventions are in health, education and agriculture.

Under the ‘Girinka’ scheme, many organisations offered more than 460 cattle to Nyamasheke residents this year.
