Rwamagana ‑ The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Rwanda donated a consignment of 12,000 science books to schools in all districts of Eastern Province.
The books worth U.S $2.5 million donated on Thursday would be distributed to various schools, according to the Governor of the province, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira.

Shortly after the handover ceremony, Governor Kirabo told the press that the books were intended to improve English and science subjects.

She added that the concerned authorities would make great efforts to give further training for teachers before distributing the books.

"Any meaningful teaching and learning process must be accompanied by availability of teaching materials. Text books are hence very important to schools and ADRA has done great service to our schools and children,” she said.

Martin Rutazirwa, who delivered the books on behalf of ADRA, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting schools.
Supporting education, he said, is one of the core values of ADRA worldwide.

"This is the second consignment of books we have given to this province in less than two years. We have delivered rich books that pave way for practical science teaching,” he said.

The books are especially valuable for school headteachers in their efforts to carry out educational reforms.
Samuel Ruzindana, the headmaster of Nyamata High School told The New Times that the books would boost science teaching in schools.

"The books are going to enrich our science library...it is also vital to note that they are also in English. So, as we embrace full scale science teaching, we shall have enough reference books,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by some headteachers and all district mayors in the province.
