As the harvest season approaches, farmers have pledged to heed the government’s call to resist the temptation to sell all their produce at once.

Most farmers, usually, sell all their produce for cash during bumper harvest, leaving little or nothing to feed on.

Food storage will provide reserves for the nation in the event that the country experiences unpredictable weather patterns that have, in the past, disrupted food yields.

Despite inadequate modern storage facilities, famers in their cooperatives are looking for alternative storerooms, because they are convinced of the importance of storing food.
Indeed, this will ensure food security and self –sustenance.

Reliable storage is also necessary to stabilise local food prices, especially during such a time when the global economy is volatile and characterized by high food and fuel prices.

To expand on the storage facilities, financial institutions as well as Saccos, should provide incentives to help establish modern facilities.

It is not only the famers who stand to benefit, but the country as a whole.
