With the Fifa U-17 World Cup only days away, Times Sport is going to run you through the Junior Wasps squad.
Emery Bayisenge
Position: Defender
Born: 02/11/1994
Place of birth: Rubavu
Caps: 12 Goals: 3
He has a strong presence in central defense and his size and strength makes him a formidable hurdle for opposition strikers to overcome. Despite his build, he is quite mobile and can be seen out jumping and out running opponents.
His defense, leadership skills, and experience propelled the team to the final of the Caf U-17 Championship.
He has made 12 caps for the team. His debut came last year against Tunisia’s U-17 side. He deserves to captain the team.
Faustin Usengimana
Position: Defender
Born: 11/06/1994
Place of birth: Kanombe
Caps: 12 Goals: 3
Usengimana is tall, athletic and comfortable on the ball which is unusual for a central defender. He was one of the team’s best players in the 2011 Caf U-17 Championship.
On top of his defensive duties, the Rayon Sport center-back scored three goals in the tournament including that famous header against Egypt which propelled Rwanda to the semi-final.
His awareness of potential danger is another feature of his game that helps him shut down opposition attacks before they develop any real threat.
The no nonsense approach he takes to defending, plus his effective partnership with Bayisenge makes him an integral part of the team. Like his captain, he has made 12 appearances for the Junior Wasps.
Jean Marie Rusingizandekwe
Position: Defender
Born: 01/07/1994
Place of birth: Kigali
Caps: 1 Goals: 0
The right back has been a regular figure in the team in the build-up to the Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
The Marines’ youngster can also play in the left back position. He is good in the air and Richard Tardy likes him for his accurate passes.
