The provisional national cricket team convened for its first training session last Sunday ahead of this year’s ICC World Cricket League/ ICC World Cup Qualifiers slated for April in South Africa.

The 21-man team was briefly handled by Steve Caley who is temporarily volunteering as the team coach.

Prior to taking the side through a few fielding drills at Kicukiro Oval, Caley who played cricket in England during his heydays called upon the team to sharpen their mind game.

"Cricket calls for one’s mind. Good thinking always yields off good results," Caley who also doubles as the managing director for Fina Bank said before adding, "Games are not won with individuals but as a team where everyone mucks in together, works hard and fights for each other," he continued.

It is also said that shortage of major innings is said to have been Rwanda’s major setbacks during the 2004 and 2006 ICC World Cricket Leagues.

Rwanda is preparing for a resurgence at this year’s ICC World Cricket League edition, which begins on April 13.

Meanwhile, the local cricket governing body (RCA) is already working round the clock to raise the Frw 5.7 million that is needed for the team to travel.
