MYSORE- Twenty three Rwandan students, on Friday, completed a two-week industrial attachment at Infosys Limited, the second largest information technology company in India.

It is the first time the company has organised such an internship for African students.

Rwanda’s High Commissioner in India, Williams Nkurunziza, attended the graduation ceremony held at the Infosys campus in Mysore, India.

Nkurunziza said: "We are happy and proud that Rwandan students were given the opportunity to learn essential job skills and get industry exposure in this world class IT training centre.”

"We are grateful to officials of Infosys and are looking forward to continued collaboration and pursue such initiatives and avail such opportunities to a big number of Rwanda students.”

The objective of the internship was to provide the students with skills "intrinsic” to any industrial sector as well as expose them to the functioning of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

BPO helps increase a company’s flexibility. It is a subset of outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of specific business functions or processes to a third-party service provider.

The internship was conducted in the world's biggest corporate training facility for IT professionals in Mysore – located 140 km from India’s Silicon Valley, Bangalore.

It was initiated by the Rwanda envoy along with Ignace Gatare, Minister of ICT in the Office of the President, during an earlier visit in Bangalore.

Infosys Limited, formerly Infosys Technologies Limited, is ranked 28th globally in the list of IT service providers.

It has offices in 33 countries and development centres in India, China, Australia, UK, Canada, Brazil and Japan.

The company offers software products for the banking industry and business process management services and also provides end-to-end business solutions.
