According to a statement from the police, the annual retreat will mainly focus on aspects such as crime reduction, professional conduct, operation efficiency and curbing corruption within the force.
It will also look among others, ways to strengthen international cooperation and how to improve the welfare of servicemen.
According to the statement, so far 80 percent of last year’s resolutions were achieved and the rest are on course.
Opening the retreat, the Minister of Internal Security, Musa Fazil Harelimana pointed out that while the police was continuously improving; more efforts were needed, especially from the grass roots level.
"It is impressive that there has been decentralization of command down to the district level. This means that the public get better services,” Harelimana said.
The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, said that the forum would be an opportunity to reflect, refocus, re-engineer and find a way forward.
"All this is done to ensure that RNP becomes a professional force that is up to the challenge of curbing crime,” Gasana remarked.
After the retreat, monitoring and evaluation on the implementation of resolutions will be pursued to ensure effectiveness.
