KIGALI - As Parliamentary business resumes next week, lawmakers are expected to pass several bills, including one establishing the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), among others.

Last December, the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, presented the RGB draft law before Senate. It outlines the mission, organisation and functioning of the body.

The establishment of the RGB will lead to merging of several institutions and services within the local government ministry whose responsibilities relate to governance.

RGB will promote good governance and decentralisation, monitor the practices of good governance in public institutions and conduct research in civic, political and corporate domains, to achieve institutional accountability, sustainable development and prosperity.

Earlier, Senators approved the bill and forwarded it to the Committee on Political and Good Governance.

Further information availed by Augustin Habimana, the Director of Communications in the Lower Chamber, says that during the week, legislators will review the draft law on matters related to the institution of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as well as the draft law on the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

The Senate, too, resumes business and issues on the agenda include examining a report by the Committee on Economic Development and Finance on the progress in the implementation of government’s collective settlement (Midugudu) plans.
