TWO days ago, I put out my first eleven (Amavubi) ahead of Sunday’s 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Burundi. After the team’s training session yesterday morning, Sellas Tetteh (Amavubi coach) jokingly told me to leave his job alone.
To my credit, the Ghanaian whispered that I was close to his ideal first eleven.
So, who is likely to get onto the plane to Bujumbura?
Like Amavubi Captain Haruna Niyonzima recently said, the midfield is where the game will be won which means that Tetteh is likely to go for a 4-3-3 formation to combat the Swallows’ slick passing abilities.
With Olivier Karekezi back in the wasps fold, Tetteh must be contemplating whether to play him in a more advanced role, where he is more devastating or have him and Migi (Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza) sit back and protect the back in a 4-4-2 formation.
It looks unlikely that Tetteh will use the latter formation as was evidenced yesterday when Karekezi and Migi were overrun in midfield prompting their side to lose 3-0.
All the 26 players in camp have done enough to prove that they merit a place in the 18-man squad so the ball is in Tetteh’s coat.Let’s wait and see who gets onto the plane.
