KIGALI - The president of the African Federation of Human Resources Management Association (AFHRMA), Tiisetso Tsukundo, has called upon human resources managers to promote their excellence and professional ethics so as to contribute to national development.

He made the remarks yesterday while speaking at a national workshop for Human Resource Managers (HRM) in the country.

"Build an effective human resources structure and deliver efficient services to your organisation and the country,” he told them.

Tsukundo added that human resources managers need to be perceived as strategic partners and advisers.

 "It’s your role to drive the co-operate behavior and shape the company’s culture because without your efforts, institutions can’t achieve their targeted goals,” he said.

He urged them to ensure excellent execution of administration by using technology, shared services, self service and outsourcing. 

The forum that brought together human resources managers, officers, consultants and other HR (Human Resource) practitioners, was aimed at creating a platform for dialogue and information sharing on HR best practices.

During the meeting, the Rwanda Human Resources Management Association (RHRMA) was officially launched. 

Opening the workshop, the Minister of Public Service and Labour Anastase Murekezi,  said that Human resources managers occupy a strategic position in the development of the country.

"We can’t achieve our mission and vision without your strong commitment in promoting the goals and objectives of the both public and private institutions in the country,” he noted.

Murekezi commended the launch of RHRMA saying that it would be a platform for all the human resources personnel to act in one voice in contributing towards the country’s development.

Judith Muhongerwa, Head of Human Resources Commercial Bank of Rwanda (BCR), said that the forum would enable her understand best practices of human resource management.

 "We all work differently in different sectors, so the professional conduct should be the same, I expect to be at the same level of understanding with my colleagues through sharing ideas and experiences,” she added.

Jean Bosco Rwelinyange, the Human Resources Manager at CogeBank, stressed that the meeting would equip him with knowledge and skills since it is an interactive discussion among people of the same profession.

"I hope to gain more professional guiding principles in human resource management which will help me in managing my institution,” he said.

The President of RHRMA mentioned that the association will create a platform for dialogue, information sharing, and promote networking of HR practitioners at the national and international level.

"The association is open to all HR from the private sector, public sector, local government and civil society institutions, "she stated.

The workshop was organised by Public Sector Capacity Building Secretariat (PSCBS), Ministry of Public Service and Labour and the existing HR associations in the country.
