KIGALI - MTN, the country’s leading telecom operator, yesterday launched its ‘21 days of Y'ello care' campaign to support initiatives that protect the environment.
This year’s theme ‘Making a Positive Difference to the Environment’, is in line with the United Nation’s declaration of 2011 as the International Year of Forests.
"We believe this theme resonates very well with the environmental policy and priorities of the Government of Rwanda, and MTN is privileged to make a contribution,” MTN Rwanda’s Chief Executive Officer, Khalled Mikkawi said.
For 21 days, MTN staff in all its companies in Africa and the Middle East, will swap their suits for overalls and shovels for an all-out tree planting exercise.
In addition, MTN operations will roll out other environmental projects, such as river and beach clean-ups, provide communities with solar-panelled water pumps and various other initiatives aimed at preserving the planet’s resources.
The overall target is to plant a minimum of 21,000 trees.
21 Days of Y’ello Care was instituted by the MTN Group President and CEO in 2007 to give all MTN employees an opportunity to contribute towards improving the welfare of their communities.
