KARONGI – Over Rwf 18 million will be spent on the expropriation of over 3,500 residents to pave way for the construction of a model village in the Western Province.

This is one of the four villages countrywide with others located at the Rwamagana and Kayonza border (Eastern Province), Kamonyi (Southern Province) and Musanze in the North.

According to local authorities, the model village will constitute a development package with 11 components, among them, education, agriculture and commercial infrastructure, health and hospitality programs.

At a meeting with residents yesterday, Provincial Executive Secretary, Paul Jabo, reminded the beneficiaries of the expropriation fund to make good use of the money.

"Once you get the money, it’s not wise to engage in non constructive behaviour such as alcoholism as most people do,” Jabo warned.

The warning comes amid claims that those who have already received the money have misused most of it.

He called for collective efforts from the population and cooperation with the local leaders to achieve the dream as part of government's integrated development program.

Jabo challenged them to always discuss personal problems and seek solutions.

"It’s a long term measure of establishing and achieving sustainable economic and social development” he said.
