Sunrise FC has set bigger ambitions for the upcoming season as they target to, at least, finish in the top five of Rwanda’s premier football league.

Last season, the Nyagatare-based outfit was promoted to the top division.

Head coach Innocent Senginga’s team has already beaten Police 1-0, thanks to a goal from Ugandan striker, Brian Ssali.

"We launched our campaign for this season early this month. The idea was to be at the top level this season in the early stage. It’s going to be a long and hard season for us, so we need to make sure we’re ready for it. We have a chance to do well this time,” Seninga said.

"Our target is to finish among the top five and we are ready to ensure that this dream is accomplished. We have given our best against big teams like Police for the league opener, and winning this game will give us more confidence and a chance for the next matches."

Sunrise won the second division title and secured promotion to the topflight league for the 2022/23 season.

"We need to be more focused than before, be determined, and also believe that we have the ability not only to beat them. It’s going to be tough for the rest of the season and we hope to keep the pace until the very end and see where we end up," he noted.

Seninga signed seven players including Ssali (Uganda), Samson Babuwa (Nigeria), Didier Mpfashingabo (Rwanda), Herron Berian (Liberia), Ally Mbogo, Jean-Paul Itangishatse and Yves Manishimwe.
