SLYVAIN Rukundo and Jean Baptista Simuceka are in Italy intensifying preparations for this year’s East African Military Games and Culture Week due in Burundi from August 14 to 28.
Simuceka told Times Sport from his training base in Italy that, "We are training hard for the competition and we hope to win honours.”
Rukundo will also use the competition to seek minimum qualifications for next year’s London Olympic Games. The event will also feature handball, football, netball, cross-country (men and women) and basketball among others.
The East African Military Sports and Culture Week was first held in 2005 in Kampala, Uganda. Subsequent editions were held in Nairobi (2006), Zanzibar (2007), Kampala (2008) and Kigali (2009),” he said.
