Women hailed for role in eradicating Nyakatsi

NYAMASHEKE - Women in Macuba Sector, Nyamasheke District have been hailed for their significant role in eradicating thatched houses (Nyakatsi). Macuba women jointly contributed Rwf12.000 to buy nails for roofing, baked and transported over 112,000 roofing tiles to plots where houses are to be constructed.

NYAMASHEKE - Women in Macuba Sector, Nyamasheke District have been hailed for their significant role in eradicating thatched houses (Nyakatsi).

Macuba women jointly contributed Rwf12.000 to buy nails for roofing, baked and transported over 112,000 roofing tiles to plots where houses are to be constructed. Youth, district employees and local residents helped the women to transport the tiles during community work, Umuganda.

Some of the other voluntary activities that Macuba women carried out in eradicating Nyakatsi include, constructing and roofing a house for an old woman, levelling plots and contributing funds  to buy iron sheets.

"We owe all to the good government that gave women room to talk and participate in developing our country,” said Pelagie Namuremye, Co-ordinator National Committee for Women in Macuba Sector.

Marie Solange Mukeshimana, President for National Women Council in Nyamasheke District called upon women to use the freedom the government granted them in positive and constructive ways.

"Our contribution towards eradicating Nyakatsi is evidence that we can do better as women. Especially that we have all the needed support from the authority,” she noted.

Mayor Jean Baptist Habyarimana requested women to continue believing in themselves for higher achievements, personal development and financial independence.
