Evariste Hakizimana, 28, is being held at Busasamana Police Station for allegedly beating a 13-year old boy to death.

Hakizimana is said to have killed the victim only identified as Twiringiyimana, after the latter reportedly uprooted an Irish potato plant from his garden.
 
Police said they halted the burial until they had obtained post-mortem results.

Information from local residents attributes the death to a land dispute between the suspect and the deceased’s family.

"The two families had wrangles and the young man cultivating Hakizimana’s plot of land could have been the spark,” said Jean de Dieu Bagaragaza, a neighbour.

However, Busasamana Executive Secretary, Benon Rukabu said he was not aware of any land wrangles since no case had been reported to the authorities.
