GATSIBO — At least one person has been arrested in Kabarore in connection with beating a man who later died in hospital, police said last week.
Juma Kaberuka, 42, formerly working on a farm in Simbwe cell, was beaten by unknown people when a fight reportedly broke out between two people; with whom they were drinking at a local bar, and some cattle keepers.
Kaberuka died at 7.00 am on Friday in Kibondo health center after bleeding too much through a deep cut on his arm.
The owner of the bar John Sekanambo says he did not know the cause of the fight and that when he raised an alarm, nobody came for intervention.
The deceased’s two friends Tionesta Niyozima 27, and Alphonse Munyaneza 29, sustained cuts on the head from flying bottles and were also admitted at the same health center.
Police identified the suspect in their custody as, Benon Sebudandi who was reportedly among the fighters and the rest still at large, are Butare and Innocent Kantogole.
Police took Kaberuka’s body to Kiziguro hospital for postmortem and have scheduled a meeting with area residents to address security related issues. The killing comes a week after police launched a new system of community policing in a bid to reduce crimes.
