Rwanda’s Ambassador to Latvia with permanent residence in The Hague, Netherlands, Immaculee Uwanyiligira, Tuesday presented letters of credence to Valdis Zatlers, President of the Republic of Latvia at the Riga Castle.

Latvia is one of five countries within the jurisdiction of the Rwanda Embassy in The Hague.  Others include Bulgaria, Estonia Lithuania and Slovenia.

Ambassador Uwanyiligira, presented letters of credence to Slovenia and Estonia in January and February respectively.

Speaking at the event, President Zatlers expressed his delight to receive Ambassador Uwanyiligira saying that Latvia is ready and willing to share knowledge and experience with the African continent.

Uwanyiligira expressed Rwanda’s desire to maintain friendly bilateral relations and initiate economic cooperation between the two countries.

Before presenting her credentials, Uwanyiligira participated and delivered a presentation at the Latvian-African Platform, the very first international discussion forum organised by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to promote business links between Latvian business community and the African continent.

Nine African countries participated in the forum; namely: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia.

During the forum, Uwanyiligira had separate meetings with Andrejs Klementjevs, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament (Saeima) where they discussed bilateral relations and lessons learnt in each country’s path to development.

She also held discussions with Janis Endzins, Chairperson of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) about business cooperation.

Uwanyiligira met LeonidsRibickis, Rector of Riga Technical University (RTU) and Smuidra Zermanos, Dean of the Medical Science Faculty in charge of International Students Department at Riga Stradina Medical University and discussed modalities for cooperation in Education.
