Boys perform better than girls in senor six exams

NGOMA — Senior six candidates in Ngoma district returned better results in last year’s national examinations compared to the previous year, district officials said.

According to the mark sheet obtained from the district, results improved by 1.5 percent— 88.4 percent in 2007 from 86.9 percent in 2006.

Of the 854 students who sat for the exams in the whole district, 755 (88.4%) passed.

Petit Seminaire Zaza emerged the best in the whole district with all 27 students who sat for the exams passing, representing 100 percent, while GS Zaza/ENP TTC became the second with 99.2 percent- 125 students passed out of 126 who sat the exams.

GS Gasetsa took the third position with 53 students passing out of 54 who sat representing 98.1 percent.

EAV Gitwe and Lycee de Zaza emerged the fourth and the fifth respectively with the former getting 97.8 percent. 44 students passed out of 45 candidates while the latter got 92.3 percent. At least 24 students passed out of 26 candidates who sat for the exams.

The results also indicate that boys performed better than girls. The best student in the district Kwizera Leonidas of ESI Kibungo got 8.2 points followed by Nkundukozera Janvier, of ENP TTC Zaza with 7.9 points.

Ingabire Sylvie, the best girl in the district and Heshima Christophe, both students of ESI Kibungo took the third and the fourth positions with 7.3 and 7.2 points respectively, while Habyarimana Hussein, of ES Mutenderi took the fifth position.

Other girls, who performed better among the first fifteen best students in the whole district, are Muragijimana Froduald of Petit Seminaire Zaza, who took the eighth position with 6.7 points, and Natete Marie Jeanne of GS Kabare with 6.5 points, earning her the tenth position.

These latest results indicate a great improvement as compared to the performance of senior three (Tron commun) and primary six released last month.

Out of the 3,022 pupils who sat for the Primary Leaving Exams, only 648 (21.4%) passed, while 559(26.5%) out of 2,107 who sat for senior three exams passed.
