KIGALI - Ugandans living Rwanda under their umbrella organisation, Association of Ugandans in Rwanda (AUR), over the weekend held elections which saw most executive council members retain their posts.

The chairman of the association, Haji Isa Bogere, was re-elected un-opposed.

"We shall work to see that the developments initiated are fully implemented with focus on improving the welfare of Ugandans in Rwanda,” Bogere said.

He explained that the association has played a significant role in bridging the gap between Ugandans and various public institutions, including the Ugandan High Commision.

"We also plan to advocate so that Ugandans can acquire travel documents at their embassy,” he said.

Of the 11 posts, only three were contested for including that of the treasurer, disciplin and publicity.

Nasser Semujju, a presenter at VOA-Rwanda was elected as public relations officer, while Rebecca Muzoora and Chris Kaggwa took over as disciplinary officer and treasurer, respectively.

Uganda`s High Commissioner to Rwanda, Richard Kabonero, hailed the associations’ activities in coordinating and organising Ugandans in the country.

"As the embassy, it is part of our responsibility to ensure the welfare of Ugandans in Rwanda, but the association has also encouraged them to take personal responsibility in various forms,” Kabonero said.

He promised to work together with the association in ensuring the team achieves its targets.
