Musanze - Legal practitioners should ensure access to quality justice, the Minister of Justice, Tharcisse Karugarama said.

He was speaking at the closing of a five-day training program of district legal advisers-and land officers drawn from all the districts countrywide.

Reflecting on the quality of justice during the previous regimes, Karugarama, said legal practitioners should aim at excellent justice, which the future generation would be proud of.

"We now have access to justice homes, community mediators, and professional lawyers in all legal areas. Universal quality justice needs to be seen and the responsibility lies on your shoulders,” Karugarama said.

The notaries, and land officers who held their training in Musanze, had lessons on the contract law, insolvency law, companies act, law on mortgage and securities.

"The training has benefited us; we had scanty knowledge about these new laws. We appreciate capacity training especially for the young people in various districts,” said Innocent Rwatangabo, who spoke on behalf of the team.

During the function, Karugarama presided over the swearing-in of all executive secretaries in charge of social affairs at the cell and sector levels in Musanze Disrict, who were recently elected.  

The Minister warned the district legal officers against corruption, intrigue and petty differences which may jeopardize Rwanda’s vision of universal access to quality justice.
