AM writing to draw attention to increasing counterfeit products sold on the streets of Kigali.

Recently, I was going upcountry when I encountered a hawker trading a flash disk in the parking yard of the bus I was about to board.

It was labelled "32 GB” and he was willing to let it go for a paltry Rwf2, 000, and naturally, I parted with my money. A few days later, I tried to upload two movies on to the disk and in bewildment, the computer indicated that space was not enough. After a few days, the flash disk could not open. There and then, I realised I had been duped and I could do nothing about it.

So my warning goes to unsuspecting Rwandans who might fall for the same trap. Watch out what you buy.  Police in collaboration with the Rwanda Bureau of Standards should thus crackdown on unscrupulous importers of such counterfeit products. Otherwise, the Rwandan public shall continue to lose their hard earned cash.
