FOR the seventh year running, no Rwandan was able to come in the top five of the Kigali International marathon or win any of the categories in contention.
Kenyan athletes extended their dominance in the marathon as they swept all honours in the full and half marathon races yesterday at Amahoro stadium.
Felix Kipchirchir had a 1-2-3 finish in the 42 km after clocking two hours, 17 minutes and four seconds to pocket $2500 (Rwf1.48m).
Felix Kangogo and Peter Limo finished second and third respectively.
Rwanda’s top performer Dominique Ntigurirwa was in 18th place after clocking two hours, 27 minutes and 58 seconds.
Beatrice Rutto from Kenya claimed the women’s category after clocking 2 hours, 51 minutes and 45 seconds.
Moving on to the half marathon, Kenyans were still in high gear. Bowen Francis won the event in a time of one hour, four minutes and 36 seconds. Home boy Robert Kajuga finished second while Peter Kosgei completed the medal bracket.
In the women category, Kenya dominated the medal bracket as Hillary Kiptod, Elizabeth Rumokol and Friday Jepkite took 1, 2 and 3rd positions respectively.
Pelagie Musengimana finished seventh, while Epiphanie Nyirabarame clocked 1:23:54 to finish in 11th position.
