Drama, shock and nail biting fans best describes the atmosphere that engulfed Amahoro Indoor Stadium as APR thrashed Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) 3-1 in the men’s final of the Genocide Memorial tournament.

APR added yet another title to their already full trophy cabin amidst a large crowd.

KVC shocked many when they comfortably won the first set 25-17 thanks to a Christopher Mukunzi but a lapse in concentration cost them a title.

Rather than be sad, the KVC Coach Jean Marie Nsengiyumva said, "I am very happy that my team played very well but because they are young, they became overconfident after winning the first set.”

A strong comeback saw the army side win the next three sets (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) to clinch their first title of the year.

In the women category, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) broke the APR jinx to clinch their very first title this year maintaining a consistent display of young talent and intelligent players.

"I am proud of Rwanda right now and I’m so happy for the young players in RRA that they have managed to play like this,” said RRA Captain Dorcus Ndasaba.

Experience from senior players Ndasaba, Ida Alexandra Humuza and Claudette Muhongerwa enabled the young side to see off Kenyan side, Nairobi Water. In the third place play-off, APR saw off Ugandan side KAVC 3-0.

The winners took home Rwf 500, 000 while first (KVC-men and Nairobi Water-women) and second runners-up (Lycee de Nyanza-men and APR-women) settled for Rwf 400, 000 and Rwf 300, 000 respectively.
