Gatsibo-Agronomists in Gatsibo District were advised to hold regular field meetings with farmers.

The call was made by the vice Mayor in charge of finance and economic development, Isaie Habarurema, in a meeting with farmers and agronomists.

"Farmers spend most of their time in their gardens. You should visit them in the field and discuss with them how to apply modern farming methods in order to increase production,” he said.

"It is more important to practically teach a farmer right in the garden than calling him in your office to teach him theoretically,” he said.

In a meeting that was held at one of the modern banana plantations in Kiziguro Sector on Thursday, the vice Mayor urged farmers to take some lessons from the farm.

"A big number of our farmers have developed from subsistence to modern farming. We want to put more efforts in supporting them,” he said.

Augustine Rukundo, a modern farmer with a banana plantation in Kiziguro Sector, said that with advice from agronomists, he has improved his farm.

"I got a lot of lessons from agronomists on how to improve my farm. I followed them well and I earn Rwf500,000 profits from it,” he said.
