AFTER years of hard work, Rwanda has been rewarded with a promotion to the ICC Africa Division 2.
Withstanding the national team’s ragged display in the just-ended ICC Africa Division 2 T20 tournament in South Africa, Rwanda still managed to induce the world cricket body with their good development program, good governance and rapid growth of the sport.
"It was always going to be a tall order considering the nature of opposition in South Africa but we are delighted by ICC’s decision,” the president of Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) Charles Haba said.
"This is a great milestone for Rwandan cricket.”
Rwanda finished 8th in the nine-nation tournament with their lone victory coming against Malawi. Nigeria were crowned champions while Botswana finished second.
Other teams included Ghana, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Swaziland and Mozambique.
