THIS year’s Genocide Memorial volleyball tournament will attract 26 teams. The two-day event which throws off this Saturday will attract Water volleyball club, academy and Ruiru from Kenya; Nkumba University, Nemo stars, KAVC, Kampala Volleyball Club and Sport S from Uganda, four teams from Burundi and one from Congo Brazzaville.

Rwanda will feature ten teams. APR (men) is out to claim a sixth successive title while their female counterparts are looking to defend their title after beating Uganda’s Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) in last year’s final.

The treasurer of the national volleyball federation (FRVB) Gustave Nkurunziza yesterday said that the body is lobbying to have the event incorporated into the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) annual calendar.

Rwf0.5m has been staked for the winning teams while the first and second runners-up will settle for Rwf0.4m and Rwf0.3m respectively.
