KIGALI - An estimated 47,000 people turned up for the provisional driving license examination on Monday.
The 30-minutes theoretical exam started at 9:00 am at most of the examination centres. The countrywide exercise was conducted at the district level.
In Kigali, the test was conducted at Amahoro National Stadium, Nyamirambo Regional Stadium and at the Kigali Independent University (ULK) campus.
Candidates registered through SMS’s, a new arrangement by Rwanda Traffic Police to reduce bureaucracy in the registration process.
The head of Traffic Police, Vincent Sano, said that such reforms are aimed at ensuring that every Rwandan owns a driving license.
After the exam, a Kigali candidate, Christian Mico Mupenzi said that it was fair, adding that he was optimistic he would pass.
"The paper was not as difficult as I thought, and I expect to get the required pass mark though I have never attended a driving school,” he said.
The next theoretical exam is scheduled for May 18.
