The 2007 national and regional football giants APR FC coach, Andia Mfutila has attributed this year’s Primus league trophy to his undying team’s spirit.

Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, Mfutila said that APR has fought a long battle throughout this competitive season.

"This has been a very hectic and competitive season I have ever experienced in my career.

 Not only have we managed to excel through the worst times but this club has maintained their consistency throughout its fixtures,”

"This season was a season which comprised of big teams only; nothing like a small team was present in this league because every team tried to earn maximum points from their fixtures,” Mfutila said.

Mfutila added that only his team proved great determination combined with the players’ inevitable spirit which in the end helped them win the league trophy.

The DR Congo born coach who was signed by APR last year from St Eloi Lupopo has won a treble in his first year at the club.

APR beat off stiff challenge from rivals Rayon Sports and Atraco to retain their title.

Going into the last day of the campaign level with Rayon at the top of the table on 56 points but with a superior goal difference of one goal, the title went to the team that scored the most goals on the final day.

And so the military side proved that by winning the ninth title in 13 seasons by thrashing relegated Zebra 0-8 in Byumba courtesy of Kabange Twite (4), Andre Lomami (3) and Abbas Rassou (1).

APR’s ninth league title ensured their participation in next year’s African Champions League.

The league completes an unprecedented treble for the military side after bagging the Kagame/Cecafa Club championship in January and the Amahoro Cup trophy just over a month ago.

Second-placed, Rayon Sport will join APR as Rwanda’s representative in the Caf Confederations Cup.
