AS Kigali v Musanze
The race to finish second in the Primus National Football League took a dramatic twist after Police moved within one point of Kiyovu after defeating the Green Baggies 2-0 at Mumena artificial turf.
Starting the day in third place, four points behind their opponents, Police looked the more threatening in the first half but failed to finish the chances that they had. The first half ended 0-0.
But the law enforcers got the breakthrough on the 54th minute when striker Eric Ndahayo gave them visitors the lead.
Jean Baptiste Kayiranga’s Kiyovu could have leveled on the 70th minute but winger Jabir Mutarambirwa saw his long range shot hit the goal post.
Striker Meddie Kagere came back to haunt his former club when he scored his 4th goal in 5 matches to secure his team’s crucial three points that mean that they are just a point behind Kiyovu with games to go.
Both sides still have tricky matches till the season ends. Police host champions APR in next match and then play two matches respectively against relegation threatened Musanze and Mukura.
Both Mukura and Musanze are level on 14 points with three games left before the league winds up.
Kiyovu host Mukura next then travel to Rubavu to play Etincelles and wind up against Amagaju.
In the other league match yesterday, AS Muhanga defeated Marines 2-1 but the former still remain bottom a point adrift Musanze and Mukura, which are in action this afternoon.
APR to be crowned champions today
Meanwhile, APR will be crowned Primus National football League champions for the fourth consecutive time this afternoon regardless of the outcome of their match against La Jeunesse at Amahoro stadium.
The Military side, 13-time league winners, won the league with four matches to go and coach Ernest Brandts is now expected to give senior players like Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Baptiste Muriganeza, Kabange Twite, Mbuyu Twite and others a deserved rest after what has been a grueling season.
The other Primus league matches this afternoon include Amagaju taking on Etincelles, while Rayon Sport will host Mukura in the early kickoff.
