KIGALI - The newly appointed Minister of Infrastructure, Albert Nsengiyumva, will prioritise the development of the energy sector during his tenure.

He made the remarks when he took over from his predecessor Vincent Karega who was appointed Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa.

The handover ceremony was held at the ministry of infrastructure headquarters in Kacyiru.

"Everyone knows the significance of energy in the country; therefore, before I get to other sectors, I will need to develop this sector,” he said.

Other projects where the new minister will put emphasis, is the construction of Bugesera International Airport, the development of the envisaged regional railway that will pass through Kigali to Burundi, among other projects.

Addressing the ministry staff, Nsengiyumva commended the outgoing minister and called for maximum cooperation.

"I thank the High Commissioner for the achievement he has realised at the ministry. I am ready to work with you and if we combine our efforts, I am sure we shall achieve our targets for the good of the citizens,” he told the staff.

Prior to his cabinet appointment, Nsengiyumva was the head of the Workforce Development Authority.

Karega expressed optimism that the new Minister would deliver.

The State minister in charge of energy and water, Coletha Ruhamya, urged the High Commissioner-designate to look for opportunities in South Africa that would develop the infrastructure sector.
