The Gender Monitoring Office (GMO) focus on implementing the use of a gender disaggregated data framework in its 2011-2013 strategic plan.

The gender disaggregated data enables stakeholders to report on the gender situation in the public and private sector.

It also reflects the roles, real situation and general conditions of women and men in every aspect of the society.
 
Speaking at a consultative workshop on the GMO’s three-year plan, Oda Gasinzingwa, the Chief Gender Monitor at GMO said that her institution was working closely with the National Institute of Statistics and the Ministry of Finance to implement data on gender.

"It is our role to ensure that stakeholders recognise and buy the use of gender-data, so as to review the gaps and challenges and as well understand that gender-disaggregated data adds value to the development process of our country,” she added.

The forum that brought together members of public institutions, NGOs, Civil Society Organisations and the Private Sector, aimed at identifying strategic priorities for GMO in the three years.

Gasizingwa stated that in the plan, GMO would also focus on putting in place clear indicators of gender equality and equity in different sectors.

She revealed that previously the institution had no strategic plan and it was challenging to focus on key priorities since gender is a cross cutting issue.

She however mentioned that the three year plan would facilitate the institution to execute its duties more efficiently.

Gasizingwa called upon stakeholders to support the institution in identifying gaps and address them.

She said that GMO has been monitoring land registration in the country to ensure that the process bequeaths equal rights in land ownership between men and women as reflected in the constitution.
