THERE was a mixed reaction from Rwanda’s two professional golfers at the end of the second round of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour –Arusha leg.

While Jean Baptist Hakizimana could not hide his excitement after making the cut, Emmanuel Ruterana packed his bags after firing a combined 148 over two rounds, one short of the cut.

Similar to day one, Hakizimana shot two under par 70 yesterday, to stay joint-third alongside Tanzania’s Gidi Gidi and the Kenyan duo of Ali Kimani and Dismas Indiza.

Gerald Snow tops the leader board with 134 while Simon Ngigi is four strokes back in second place.

Having made the cut, Hakizimana is certain of pocketing a share of the Rwf8.2m cash prize.

The tournament is also a warm up to the KCB Rwanda Open slated to run from May 25-29 at the Kigali Golf Club.

Early this year, the KCB Group announced a sponsorship deal of Rwf61.8m for the East African Golf Tour Series.
The tour, which draws both amateur and professional golfers, is jointly held in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
