GATSIBO- World Vision Rwanda yesterday donated bicycles to 162 health mobilisers from Gatsibo and Nyagatare districts to ease their transport.

The beneficiaries were drawn from the sectors of Gitoki and Kabarore in Gatsibo and Karangazi sector in Nyagatare District.

Fred Ntakirutinka, a World Vision official stressed the importance of helping local health officials level.

"We decided to donate these bicycles to the health officials as part of our commitment to help the government in its plan of facilitating quick service delivery to citizens,” he said.

"This donation is partly a solution to the transport problem among health councillors at the sector level.”

Ernestine Mukangenera, one of the beneficiaries told The New Times that the bicycles would help them submit reports on time and improve their work.

"Our job has been moving at a slow pace due to transport means…but with this donation, we shall put more efforts,” she said.

The district Mayor, Ambrose Ruboneza, advised recipients to take good care of the bicycles and use them effectively.

He urged them to play a key role in sensitising residents to adopt family planning methods as a way of controlling the population growth.

"Statistics show that the number of people using family planning is still very low. You should play a key role in sensitising residents to join it,” he said.

Ruboneza challenged health officials to work together and reaffirmed the government’s support.He also thanked World Vision Rwanda for its support to the district.

"World Vision supported us in eradicating thatched houses, Girinka programme and many others. This is a good example that even other development partners should emulate,” he said.
