KIGALI - The security of travel documents, their cost, and free movement of people between Rwanda, Burundi and the DRC, is high on the agenda of discussions in Kigali.

Experts from the three-member regional grouping – the Economic Community for the Great Lakes Region (CEPGL), are exchanging views and making appropriate changes in a previous draft document to streamline the issues.

The meeting, which started yesterday and ends today, is attended by directors and commissioner generals of CEPGL migration services.

Herman Tuyaga, the Executive Secretary of CEPGL, told reporters that facilitating the region’s development is the key objective of the meeting.

Tuyaga said the bloc has plans to ensure free movement of people and goods, and that for that to be possible, caution was needed.

The grouping has a common travel document, the CEPGL card, but is acquired at different rates among member states; $80 in DRC, $10 in Rwanda and at $5 in Burundi.

"Those documents ought to be sold at the same price,” Tuyaga said.

"We want our three countries to share goods and for that to happen, people must be able to travel freely to.”
