BUGESERA - At least 50 police officers yesterday started a three-month advanced investigations course in Bugesera District, Eastern province.

The course that will enhance knowledge in investigation and detecting of various crimes is sponsored by the Belgian Technical Cooperation.

The inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana, who officially opened the training, said that such initiatives bring efficiency, effectiveness and professionalism.

 "District Judicial Police Officers (DJPOs), Intelligence officers (IOs) and indeed Rwanda National Police, are the basis for quality justice, which is why you need to build your capacity with the required level of professionalism,” Gasana said.

The police chief added that: "This workshop comes at an opportune time, and will enhance our knowledge on the existing and future challenges in the areas of criminal investigations which is one of the pillars towards the fulfillment of our mission,” he added.

The IGP expressed his gratitude to the Belgian Technical Cooperation for their support in training the officers.

Antoine Bigirimana, the representative of BTC said that in their four-year project "support to crime investigations for fair administration to justice and good governance”, worth One million Euros, their ultimate goal is to train 250 judicial police officers in phases.

The Police spokesman, Superintendent Theos Badege, said that the training is part of the efforts to professionalize the force.

"This training will build the capacity of judicial Police officers by giving them necessary skills to operate the new Forensic Laboratory” Badege said.

Badege said that equipment for the laboratory which is under construction will arrive in the country soon.

Rwanda National Police strives to professionalize its personnel through trainings and skills development.
