More than two dozen vulnerable students yesterday completed a seven-month course in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and auditing.

The short course is an initiative of Friends of Jesus Ministry to support vulnerable students who completed Senior Six, but could not continue with their education due to financial difficulties.

Friends of Jesus Ministry, was founded by various churches in the country to support the youth, fight drug abuse and the Genocide ideology and entrench unity and reconciliation among the youngsters.

Of the 60 students who started the training, only 27 graduated. The other 33 failed to get the pass mark required by the organization. They will have to re-sit for the exam.

The president of the ministry, Jean Claude Mutsindashyaka described the successful students as "brilliant and capable of competing for any job in their respective disciplines.”

He urged them to use the acquired skills to accomplish their set life targets and also support their families.

"The training helped me get a job,” said Emelyne Muhawenimana, one of the students. She now works with MTN Rwanda.

Muhawenimana completed her Advanced Level last year but failed to continue her studies because of financial problems.

"I can now smile because I will continue my education supporting myself since I have a job,” she said.

Another student, Francis Uwihanganye, noted that such programmes should be extended to other parts of the country to benefit other vulnerable students who failed to continue their studies.

"It is more of a practical course which helps us enhance our knowledge and do our work effectively in the field,” said Uwihanganye.

Mutsindashyaka said that they are in the process of getting students from all parts of the country to benefit from the training.
