The ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mijespoc has allocated twenty six million francs for this year’s volleyball championship.
The money which now lies in the hands of the National Volleyball governing body, FRVB, will be shared amongst clubs which will compete in the championship which gets underway next Saturday.
"We want to meet to decide on how to divide the money amongst the clubs,” said Gertrude Kubwimana, FRVB Executive Secretary, "Each club was supposed to get one million francs but a problem has arisen as two more teams want to compete.”
Kubwimana said that the money will foot clubs’ transport costs, refreshments and other necessities during the championship. Most clubs are student teams and have little financial capability to relay on, especially during away competitions.
This year’s championship entry has gone up from 19 to 26, although two more are said to be on the verge of joining. FRVB is also said to be liaising with Bralirwa about a possible sponsorship package. The brewing company sponsored last year’s event to a tune of $20.000.
APR (men) and UNR (women) claimed last year’s championship.
