WITH the Primus league title in the bag, APR coach Ernie Brandts has switched his attention to the Peace Cup.

The army side sealed a record fourth successive league title after Sunday’s dull 1-all draw between second placed Kiyovu and Marine at Umuganda stadium.

The green baggies needed to win to keep their hopes of frustrating APR alive but the draw left Kiyovu 14 points adrift with four games to play to instantly shatter their title hopes.
Brandts could not hold back his excitement yesterday.

"I’m delighted with the achievement. It is a great reward to the players, fans, coaching staff and everyone at the club,” the Dutchman said.
"Now, our focus is getting to the last eight of the Peace Cup.”
 
APR return to action tomorrow when they take on United Stars in the round of 16 and Brandts has promised to rest some of his key players ahead of next month’s Cecafa Kagame Cup in Sudan.

"I will decide which players get a breather but one thing for sure is that some of them will rest,” the 55-year-old added.

Following their league success, there is little surprise that the army side will produce the bulk of Amavubi’s provisional team for next month’s 2012 Africa Nations Cup return leg qualifier against Burundi.

Haruna Niyonzima Haruna, Eric Gasana, Didier Kapet, Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi, Albert Ngabo, Emmanuel Sebanani, Jean Claude Ndoli, Abbas Rassou and Eric Ndayishimiye are all expected to make Sellas Tetteh’s provisional squad.

Ivory Coast and Benin complete Group H.

Brandts is looking to match Erik Paske landmark last season. Paske won a treble (League, Peace Cup and Kagame Cup).
