The annual national Heroes’ basketball tournament has been rescheduled for next weekend. According to the event organizers, APR, the tournament has been delayed because the club is still trying to raise the required sum of money to stage the competition which will feature both local and regional clubs.

"The tournament has been rescheduled for next Saturday because we believe that we shall have raised the budget sum,” the APR head coach Cliff Owuor said.

"We have already notified clubs about the changes,” Owuor added. This year’s edition will throw off with a local competition next Saturday before engaging regional clubs on March 15.

APR is said to have invited clubs from Kenya, Uganda, DR Congo and Burundi. Besides reigning champions APR, Marines, CSK, Rwanda National University (UNR) are some of the clubs expected to feature in the event.

Last year, APR was crowned champion after dislodging Burundi’s Dynamo in the final that was staged at Amahoro indoor courts.

The army side had seen off arch-rivals Espoir 74-55 in the semi-finals. The heroes’ tournament will be closely followed by the Challengers Cup tournament.
