RWANDA’S ace rider Adrien Niyonshuti won bronze after guiding ‘MTN DO IT NOW’ to a podium finish at the end of a nine-day grueling Fairbairn Capital/Old Mutual joBerg2c race.

Niyonshuti who teamed up with Max Knox came third after clocking 35hours, 12 minutes and eight seconds.

They finished the final section behind eventual winners Neil MacDonald and Waylon Woolcock after clocking 2:27:31.
MacDonald and Woolcock who featured for RE: CM won six of the nine stages of the 911-kilometre trek from Heidelberg in Johannesburg to record a total time of 34:20:18.

They beat off early leaders Brandon Stewart and Darren Lill of Fedgroup Berg and Bush, who posted 34:46:08.

Niyonshuti, whose talent was first spotted at the Wooden Bike Classic five years ago, qualified for next year’s London Olympic Games after a fourth spot finish at the African Continental Championships in Stellenbosch back in February.

The 24-year-old is now expected to fly to Kigali to try and wrestle the Kwita Izina cycling challenge title from Abraham Ruhumuriza.

The race, which was recently incorporated on the UCI calendar, is slated to run from June 11-12.

On top of local riders, it will also attract riders from Kenya, Eritrea, Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi.
