NTARAMA - RwandAir employees, Friday, visited Ntarama Genocide Memorial site in Bugesera District to pay their respects to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), John Mirenge, the group also honoured their colleagues who were killed in the Genocide by giving financial support to their families.
At the Centre, Gaspard Mukwiye, a guide, gave testimonies of how people at the site were killed.
"The majority of people killed here were women and school children who had even carried their books for revision, hoping things would get better so that they go back to school,” Mukwiye said.
RwandAir donated Rwf 1 million to the site.According to the statement released by RwandAir, the company lost 11 employees, among them drivers, technicians and the airline’s representative in Brussels, Ismail Kagabo, who was in the country when the Genocide unfolded.
The group also visited orphans in Ntarama Sector and donated an assortment of goods worth Rwf 2.5 million.
In his speech, the CEO encouraged orphans to be strong and keep in mind the Genocide so as to prevent it in future..
