KIGALI - The Belgian School in Kigali, yesterday, held a festival about Egyptian culture, history and civilisation.

The event that was held under the theme "Egypt yesterday and today "aimed at equipping students with the knowledge of the Egyptian culture.

Speaking at the ceremony, Aliette Lochy, the School Principal, said that they chose Egyptian civilisation because it was among the school syllabus this term.

"We want our students to learn more about the Egyptian culture such as the style of dressing, food, dancing, art and crafts among other activities,” she said.

Lochy stressed that ancient Egypt has held the world in awe for thousands of years.

Mahmoud Elkhatib, the Charge d’ affairs Egyptian Embassy, said that Egyptian history has a lot to offer to students.

"There are many colleges, universities and online continuing education programs which offer ancient history courses,” he added.

He hailed Ecole Belge for organising the event adding that it promotes bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Egypt. The colourful ceremony was characterised by games, arts & crafts, food, drinks and magic.

Students showcased Egyptian style of dressing, dancing and hieroglyphics, an ancient formal writing system used by the ancient Egyptians.

Angela U. Shyaka a Senior Three student said that she expects to learn more about Egyptian civilisation from the festival to enable her pass exams.
